Since prior to 1900 the Firestone Company was recognized as producer of balloon bike tires for early automobiles, this company was already primed to enter the bicycle-making business. In order to accomplish this, Firestone joined with Huffman Dayton Company to manufacture bicycles compatible with Firestone bike tires. One of the first Firestone Bicycle models was the 'Firestone Pilot' believed to have been made around 1939. Featuring a tail light build into the rear seat, this early Firestone Bicycle also came with a push-button horn and a flat carrying rack over the rear fender.
An early Firestone Bicycle built especially for girls, featured coaster brakes, blue and white paint and white-wall tires. Bicycles made for girls are not considered to be of interest to vintage-bicycle collectors.
